Another Classic Bit Of Sports Commentary

Post by Steve R »

I was watching the World Athletics Championships on BBC TV this afternoon when the commentator said "the Cubans have always excelled in the horizontal jumps and the vertical jumps".

What other type of jump might there be, for heaven's sake?.

Reminds me of David Coleman's classic about Alberto Juanterena (probably spelled that wrong).

"The great Cuban opens his legs and shows his true class".

Classic.

My favourite was always the one from the university boat race:

"..and the wife of the Cambridge President is kissing the Oxford team's cox".

I'm sure these comments are pre-planned.On the athletics earlier also one commentator made a reference to an athlete needing to qualify by the back door-just as the camera zoomed in on his backside as he bent down.
