Spam (not the meat if it is meat that is)

Post by Cenobitez »

Is it just me or are spammers gettting smarter ?

I have 2 spam filters, 1 run by SORB Listing, 1 Heustistically scanning, I also have filters i put in place, and my outlook has filters, and in 2 days (37 hours) 425 Spam emails have made it past my filters.

What happened to Can the Spam and all the new laws regarding filterings spam ?

Wanna know whats sad ? the only place where my spam level went from 100 day to 10 a week ? AOL mail, and thats the only mailbox i dont use incase i want to leave AOL (which will be when they limit my bandwidth or something).

(for those who dont know, spamtrap and spam arrest are types of programs that mean mail doesnt get thru unless a human verifys they are human, basically u send an email to bob@bob.com and an email is sent back saying click here to validate your mailbox, you only need to do this once, and then ur mail will go straight thru, the validation box can be anything upto 3 verify this pic's texts and other random tests, which means only authorised emails get thru).

Any i wanted to rant and see what everyone elses spam situ was like :)

Problem is with Spam, nobody want's to know. It sould be down to ISP's to regulate - its pretty obvious when bulk mail is sent so it would seem reasonable for ISP's to monitor the content of the bulk mail and act accordingly.

If you have a website you might want to take a look at Spam Poison seems to work pretty well.

Im probably puttng my foot right in it now, but after around 7 years of using the internet, I can honestly say I don't get even 1 piece of spam per week/month. And as far as I can see, its all down to a) using Sneakemail - (disposable email addresses), b) NEVER posting my address on forums and c) NEVER having given out my actuall/real/ISP email address - only deletable/changeable forwarding addresses. :P

Very wise, Sarah.

And that is a reason why some of us, those that aren't in the business especially, don't put in our contact details. A couple of years back, some regulars on the forum suddenly started receiving lots and lots of spam from someone (thankfully gone from here) who disagreed with their opinions.

Only one way to battle SPAM and win everytime

1 addy for the internet & 1 addy for those you know & trust

Once your email addy is in the public domain no combination of spam filters
will stop it 100 percent of the time

Once it escalates to hundreds a day/week opening a new email addy is the sensible time saving solution

I've used numerous filters and all had one major downside, mistaking real emails for spam

But if your one of those that has no choice of staying with the same email addy then this site with its myriad of programs might be of use

If i changed my email address all the time id have to continually change my business card :(

I do have a few domains i keep JUST for spam where i drop and ban email accounts, but its not practical for the day to day email.

I may switch to using Spam Trap and make everyone authenticate themselves on my personal account.

Im going to use the Verification method i think.

I figured those of you with VERY busy websites and contact email for them may have better idea's the more i think about it the more i like the idea of making people authenticate themselves.

Well then you've no choice but to employ the best spyware removal tools
for starters running them daily should keep the Spam Down

As for spam filters the best are usually those that allow you to put known email addys in a trusted zone like as well as being part of a community linkup which means everytime spam is blocked by others you have the benefit of their misfortune.Recall it was highly effective but as i said above with the only downside being eventually a reall email always ended up in the deleted/spam box

Good Luck
