I't does sound good in theory but I think what may end up happening is you'd have a concentration of depressed/wound up drinkers that would either bring each other down even more or spark each other off. Bit of a ticking time-bomb situation. Problems and alcohol are'nt a good mix.

Two solutions:

a. Just put bars, jukeboxes and pool tables in Citizen's Advice Bureaux or Samaratins drop-in centres. Lapdancing sussie-clad counsellors are the only natural two-legged antidepressants needed for the exceptionally miserable;

b. Do nothing at all. Isn't this the romanticised dual role of yesteryear that the barman plays- both drinks cabinet and agony uncle?

What would I call my Intelligent Pub?

it would be short lived: "Beer today, gone tomorrow"
unpopular: "The Nobody Inn"

"More booze, less blues"

Too much cotton wool in my head!
