Burning CDs - another stupid question.

The default for copying then burning seems to be via conversion to /from mp3. Is there any noticeable loss/degradation of data? MusicMatchJukebox has the option to do it via WAV, obviously needing more hard disk space.
Any comments guys?

WMA and MP3 are both lossey codecs. Its the bitrate that matters, 192kbs is pretty high quality and very few people are going to be able to tell the difference between a WAV and an MP3 file. Personally I favour WAV but only because they can be converted to SHN without any noticable loss in quality.

Can I pose another one?
I'd like to make some audio compilations on DVD but I've Googled vainly. I've tried 3 lots of software (Hotburn, Nero and MusicMatch) but they don't seem to want to burn audio to DVD.
Am I missing something obvious?

Well actually you can but its not as an Audio DVD. You have to cheat and create a normal DVD.

You assign each MP3 / Wav etc. to its own timeline. Then at the end of each timeline you assign the end action to play the next timeline. (The timeline is basically a movie with soundtrack but no picture.)

Now you've made my brain hurt.
But seriously, am I being naive in wondering why there isn't a technological advance that utilises the additional capacity of DVD disks compared to CD for storing audio.

There more than likely is but it hasn't been released because there isn't a ground swell of customer demand as yet

Its not by mistake that every previous innovative product has been followed closely by another making it defunct/outdated within a very small space of time

Thanks BB. I just tried it but it won't burn a DVD-R. I'm beginning to think I'm searching for the Holy Grail.
I contacted the co. who make my high-end UK DVD player and got this reply to my query about playing audio DVD.
"To be perfectly honest we don?t know. The DVD7 will play a multitude of formats and certainly trying one will not damage the unit. I would be very interested in hearing how you get on."
And thats from the guy who calls himself the technical support manager. Fills you with pride about good old British know-how....lol.
Found another called AudioDVDCreator so I'll give that one a whirl (no pun intended).
