My local has a dodgy card with an arabic logo showing the same coverage that SKY does, I have no problem with that, especailly as no Andy Gray at half time!!
I say its a dodgy card, but he's still showing them 10 weeks on and no-one has complained, so it must be OK

The West London of my youth is now on dvd

I'm pretty sure that it's not okay as the Premier League held a press conference a while back stating that all overseas broadcasts of Premier League games being shown in pubs/clubs in England were illegal and that they'd prosecute any pubs/clubs found to be doing so.

Obviously they can't get them all and many (maybe most) slip through the net unnoticed.

Sky have exclusive rights to show live premiership football in the UK as obviously they are bankrolling the top league, however with a non sky sat. system you can quite legally buy a viewing card and watch another countrys output which might include Premiership Football and not break any rules as far as I am aware. No need for any dodgy gear!!
Also sky make quite a bit of money off the trade that they get from the same system working their way from the ex pats in Spain and the like, kind of works both ways methinks.

The answer is that the public showing of any live event from abroad is illegal, even if the card was legally obtained. What you can do in your own home is completely different to what you can show in public.

It is perfectly legal to obtain cards for ART, TPS, Digital Albania, CABO and other Euro providers that re-broadcast the Sky football feeds, they also show matches during the closed period on Saturday afternoons. But these cards are sold purely for private domestic use ... and any use in a public place contravines the t&c of rhe subscription AND infringes on Sky/Football Assoc. copyright of the broadcast ... it's the latter that pubs need to be be wary of as fines are pretty hefty.

Lots of dealers will supply systems and say it's a grey area of rhe law ... but that's only the case for private individuals, For commercial venues/establishments it's black and white ... if they show it they're guilty.

This topic has been discussed for years on satellite sites.

It makes no difference whether Sky are broadcasting the game or not ... if it's being telivised then somebody in the UK owns the copyright to the broadcast. They sell it to Spain, Italy, France ... if you decode the signal in the UK and show it in a public place (pub, club etc) you've infringed the copyright.

Yeah maybe if Sky didn't charge such lofty prices to publicans and price them out of showing their coverage maybe the grey area would be cleared up a little, we all know that most pubs and clubs use a domestic sky card to view their stuff anyways, well they do round here anyways.

Sky are a total rip off, they wouldn't get a penny of my money. any legal subscriptions I've got are to foreign packages ... all cheaper than Sky and showing more up-to-date movies, most of the english football and real porn. Who needs overpriced and censored rubbish, aimed at morons with an IQ of 95.
