Codec ? codec as best i know isnt a download system, that i have come across.

Codec however is kinda like a plan, or a structure maybe, its hard to explain, DivX, XVid and MPEG-4 are all Codecs, and methods of encoding and compressing a movie file, so like a 3.4gb DVD is encoded and compressed using a codec to be around 700mb.

If you mean is anyone using codecs, the answer is 99.99% chance of yes they are, if you mean an actual program called codec then no, never heard of it.

Avoid it like the plague, any email about ANY file share BIN IT.

Have a look around p2p and fileshare sites and they will be talking about the latest new one...

I personally recommend, the old faves, imesh and limewire or emule for more advanced users.

However set your fileshare to use a virus scanned be wary or everything you download.

If your going down the p2p track then read this beforehand

and a P2P specific firewall like peer guardian or protowall
would be smart

Codec is an abbreviation for Coder-Decoder. It's an analog-to-digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) converter for translating the signals from the outside world to digital, and back again.
There are lots of different ones.

My description was slightly easier :P so ner ner ner ner

To you and most people, codec is just a wrapper, much like Cellophane, bubblewrap, and you need the correct codec to open the wrapper and view its contents, so one site may use XVID while the other uses DIVX, so you need the correct Codec to open the file and view its contents, most sites that require a codec *should* inform you which codec and good house keeping says they should provide a link on where to look to download it.

Or what he said ^^
