Re: robert jordan
The new one is a return to form---but God help anyone who picks it up without having read any of the previous ones. One thing about the long saga, though, is that every so often you have to go back and reread the whole thing to remind yourself who everyone is

Re: robert jordan
yup, already into the book two of the re-read
I agree, lots of threads tied up this time, best book for ages, but lots still to go, he says the next book is the last, I think the rumour is it's gonna be 2000 pages!
don't know if you ever read his blog, but links here if you interested

I'll check that out. Thanks, Diplo.
I assumed with all the references to 13 in the earlier tomes, that that would be the magical number.
I was a young man when I started reading them !tears!

Re: robert jordan
we all were young once lol, especially with this series, it's good to see an end in sight, i'm excited already about it, sad eh, over ten years to find the ending of a book is a wait, lol, just hope he stays fit
he makes a good point in his blog , that not everything he says has hidden meaning, there has been so much conspiracy stuff over his writing it seems he has 'had enough' and said look it's just a set of books for fucks sake stop reading too much into it and just read 'em

Re: robert jordan
In the future I'm going to wait till the last volume is written and the author has died then start reading
Once you get to the stage where you have to re-read previous volumes its really self defeating IMHO
Worse than WOT is Katharine Kerrs Deverry Series,13 so far with another 2 to follow
Give me your standard trilogy like LOR anyday
cheers

Re: robert jordan
I tend to stick with the story being told, rather than one which may be hidden. As a result the anti-church stuff in the His Dark Materials trilogy went right over my head. Maybe that's why Tolkien is held in higher regard than Lewis---storytelling winning out over heavyhanded religious symbolism.
Goodness knows how Jordan manages to keep all those characters straight in his own head.

I gave up with Kerr after the first three. Tried the fourth, but decided life is just too short.

Re: robert jordan
Smart man
Her way on bouncing around in time every other chapter borders on disbelief.Did my head in trying to figure out who was who every chapter
which is why I only read single volume books now
Once you go past 3/4/5 books your just trampling over old ground IMHO
Sure you might be in different settings with new introduced characters
but its still the same simplistic Good vs Evil Plot
I'd imagine the pressure from the Publishers to get an Author to write a best selling series that almost never ends would be extreme
cheers

So long as that author isn't Archer or Higgins.
