I would like to nominate the "individual" that took a 12 bore to the female Eagle Owl that has been nesting on the M.O.D. gun ranges at Catterick in North Yorkshire for the past 10 years, this incidently happened just after a programme went out showing the magnificence of this beautiful creature.

Not a moron---he knew what he was doing. Probably a farmer or agricultural worker. Up here, estate managers end up in court for poisoning birds of prey, caring nothing for what else might ingest the contaminated meat they leave out. If they refuse to do something about the birds, their employers tend to sack them.
Since we're trying to protect these birds, and in many cases are working hard to reintroduce them into the environment, the courts should have harsher penalties to deal with those who kill the birds---and those who allow it to happen on their land.
