technical help needed

I have a computer offline that is used for editing. When I open Windows XP then a strange code appears instead of English?
Anyone know what this is and what to do?!confused!

I can get into Windows no problem but is all in this code! Start and all the programs are there.Do you think that I should still boot in safe mode? What is the next step?!confused!

Sound like it could be that either your graphics card has died or your graphics card driver is corrupt - had the same problem just before Christmas, I re-installed the driver and everything worked fine after that.

I tried to re-install the VGA driver but as everythingis in code I was not
successful. I think that you are right though!

I had another thought - have you uninstalled any software recently? If you have, you may have uninstalled the font that windows uses for menus and such like. If so try a System Restore.

When I uploaded the drivers a driver icon appeared on the desktop?

What graphics card are you using?

If it's ATI it maybe a shortcut to Catalyst Control Center.
