I wonder if any of you can help out. I installed some file sharing software for a few days last week, which I have since removed. From around the same time I have been unable to send e-mail via smtp.wanadoo.co.uk using my laptop via a Netgear 834 wireless router. Receiving is fine and if I connect my laptop directly with an ethernet cable all is well.
I decided to check my router settings by logging into 192.168.0.1 From my desktop PC, connected to the router by an ethernet cable, I get to my Netgear Router Settings page but from my wirelessly connected laptop I am taken to a D-Link Flash Login Page http://192.168.0.1/main/flashLogin.html containing the details of another router altogether. I was able to login for a short while and found the name of another user and the MAC address 00 50 ba 98 ba 88.
The only wireless connection that shows up is my usual NETGEAR connection and no others appear in range. Has my web browser been hi-jacked to divert me to this other router's settings page and why?
I run Avast antiviral software regularly updated and Spybot adware blocker.
Have I been hi-jacked? That's not my router!

Sounds like you are logged into someone elses wireless router though they are obviously numbskulls if you can login let alone use their network!

Yeah, looks like you've inadvertantly managed to logon to someone elses wireless network.
You can try logging onto your own router using a cable, then you might be able to change the routers LANIP (the one you use to connect to it with your computers) to 192.168.1.1. If you can do that, just set your computers to use 192.168.1.1 as the gateway instead of 192.168.0.1.

Re: Have I been hi-jacked? That's not my router!
Thanks for that, which ties in with some other advice I've got from other forums. I've logged into to my Router changed its LAN IP to 192.168.0.27 ( just for the hell of it, 27's my lucky number! ) and done the stuff on my PC to make it connect. I also changed the SSID from NETGEAR to "Hugh's Wireless Network"
My laptop now logs on to "Hugh's Wireless Network" with a strong signal but I can't get it to connect to the internet. I've clicked on "Available Wireless Networks", then on "Properties" for the Internet Protocol TCP/IP setting and I'm faced with a bunch of possible changes...
On my PC they are set to obtain an IP address automatically, and everything seesm to work. What setting should I use for my laptop to avoid IP address conflicts?
Thanks again ,especially to slamdaddy.
