My favourite comic character from yesteryear has to be Will Eisner's 'The Spirit', in which he invented a lot of the conventions now common in graphic story telling.

I loved Marvel etc when they re-launched in 1972, and collected loads. In those days I did a paper round and got 50p and 2 comics of my choice. I opted for Marvel and Spiderman Weekly.
When we emigrated to Hong Kong in '73, Marvel were everywhere, and I soon discovered other comics like Valiant and Tiger that you could buy at ex-pat shops in HK.
I brought a Valiant on ebay last year for a fiver..........and wished I had kept mine.

Another comic I got from the UK was soon banned called Action, which was launched in 1976-ish.....very violent for its time, I recalled a killer Great White Shark called 'HookJaw' that liked to eat people in glorious technicolour.

I moved from Marvel to Dark Horse to Peter Bagges Hate. It might sound sad to some but I really enjoyed reading comics and its nice to see movies like Sin City, Road To Perdition and From Hell making it from graphic novel to big screen and doing well as a result and how some directors have had an intelligent approach to it.
