ASIA original line-up live

Post by Arginald Valleywater »

Saw them in Newcastle last night. Superb. Never rated Steve Howe before but was amazed at his guitar work. Only thing is he wore a pair of light blue slacks, not very Rock n Roll.

Carl Palmer was awesome on drums, he works bloody hard and really hammers the kit a la Bonham.

Apart from ASIA numbers also got treated to Court of the Crimson King, Roundabout, Video Killed the Radio Star and Fanfare for the Common Man.

Opening music was Pomp and Circumstance by Elgar, marvellous!

Sounds interesting, Arnie.

How did they treat "Video Killed ...."? Did they "rock it up" a bit?

Check out the 'Acoustic TV Broadcast DVD' I made for John & Geoff (as ICON), released worldwide earlier this year.

Fanfare for the Common Man and Video ... were much heavier than the ELP/Buggles versions. Steve Howe really let fly on Fanfare and Palmer's drumming was like a man possessed. They made Geoff Downes wear a particularly snazzy silver lame jacket and Trevor Horn style glasses! Forgot Video...was the first song ever played on MTV. These guys can really play.
