BBC show

Post by mike johnson »

Here in the U.S. I write a bit for a porn newsletter. Early in 1999 it printed an open letter from a BBC minion named Sarah Mortimer asking for submissions to be used in a "6 part series about the history of pornography." Can anyone tell me if this was ever finished & broadcast? Thanks.

It was indeed finished and broadcast, but on Channel 4, if I remember correctly.

Mephisto.

Ty. The editor probably equated U.K. TV w/ the BBC; the actual production company was apparently World of Wonder. So, was it any good? Informative? Semi-explicit?

I'm afraid the sea of time has diluted my memory somewhat, but I seem to recall that the episodes I saw were OK and I did learn stuff that I didn't already know. "Semi-explicit?" Not really, I seem to recall some artificially blurred pictures of girls in bikinis. But in a rational world, if you were making a documentary about porno you would certainly be showing some porno film clips to illustrate what you are talking about.

Yeah, that about sums it up.

Each week covered a different 'media,' with the last
two being video & digital.

If memory serves, there was a channel 4 book released
at the same time, but a casual look at amazon.com didn't
turn it up.
