Much of what I saw yesterday was fairly calculating and choreographed. Identikit bands. Why is Lily Allen doing Specials covers .. to broaden her appeal or because she's short of her own ideas?

Iggy Pop's motivations are prety much the same as they were in 1967 I should think. There's something inside him that he needs to vent and give expression to .. in other words it's about artistry and boy was that apparent. There was a great moment at the end of the set when Pop said to the audience 'I am you ... I am you'.

It doesn't matter how old you are .. who made the greater impact Iggy Pop or CSS or The Klaxons ? It was also good to see John Fogerty .. okay, it was 'greatest hits' but they're his songs and quality stuff.

I think his point was 'I am not a star' or 'I am not a celeb'. That status is attributed to him by others but maybe he doesn't see himself in those terms. Let's suppose that that's the case ... I don't think people like Doherty and others have that kind of humility. Their primary motivation is to be famous .. Doherty is a few years into his career and his best efforts are probably the equal of an Iggy Pop cast-off !

Iggy may not be as wealthy as you think. There were some barren years in terms of output and visibility, but there is some quality in the catalogue and so far as I can tell some integrity about the man.

I might be wrong, but I thought Allen was helping out The Specials.

Some good stuff, some crap. Just like most years.

Did like the Mexican guitarists appearing in the jazz tent performing Wish You Were Here and letting the crowd do the singing.
