England

Great talk post-match, little action. Every reputable pundit said he should
change the line-up for this match- a lack of character that may well cost him
his job.
They've suffered for the last 30 years from a lack of a regular killer-scorer.

No amount of player/manager bull can disguise that.
Simply? They're not good enough.

Course we are. You DO know who the current holders are right?

I say it over and over. Most countries pick players that are footballers first, and atheletes second. England continually pick athletes first, and footballers second.

Seriously, apart from Rooney and Joe Cole, who has any technique in that team?

All the component parts are there----just a case of getting them to work together. Not sure if Maclaren is the man for the job. You need someone inspirational. If there is a major fault, it tends to be a lack of passion.

You so nearly had it Carac.

I'd replace 'passion' with 'possession' tonight - and the Russians had it all in the second half.

Michael Owen in his prime was such a killer-scorer, however the team around him have generally under-performed.

If anyone could inspire, get the team working, use a blend of experience and youth, have the balls to pick the best team of 11 (not the best 11 individuals) and generally be his own man, for me; Bobby Robson, even in his advanced years.

Didn't see the England game, so can't comment on that, Sam. But I feel that some of your sportsmen do lack passion which is why when a Gascoigne or a Flintoff comes along they tend to be treated like gods.

As an ex-manager, I always found that fear of losing one's job concentrated
the mind wonderfully.

Better than the present incumbent; still, you could hardly do any worse.

And at least he knows the names of the FA-directors' wives.........
