I went to Wembley as a last minute thing leaving Bristol at 3.20 pm for 8 pm k.o and...
-got on tube, signal failure, all turfed off
-mass stampede as hundreds try to get taxi
-back on tube on different line
-get off at Sudbury Hill
-nick someone's taxi, almost get in fight
-stopped by police as taxi driver cuts up the law
-arrive at ground 20 mins later
-arrive in seat, score is 0-2
-calamity of game etc, forced to wait in crowd of 60,000 for 3 trains
-heavens open and nearly drown
-get to outlying station, soaked by passing car, cannot find own car
-leave London at midnight, arrive home at 1.45 am
11 ish hour round-trip, shed load of money, time, effort.
On a serious note, will never ever use Tube again. What an absolute disgrace.
How on earth London can think of running an Olympics is beyond me.
Tube- a disgrace?

It cant, 'it' just thinks it can.

...apart from that; had a good night!
Re: Tube- a disgrace?
What I like about the plan to run the Olympics (not) is that whatever the bill is we (the taxpayer) is going to have to pay it.
Originally it was ? 7 Billion, I think it?s now somewhere between ? 9 and ?14 Billion. But it doesn?t matter, if it goes to ? 20 Billion, ? 25 Billion, ? 30 Billion we are stuck with it now and will have to pay it.
Aren?t you proud of us winning the bid?
I heard that bastard Seb Coe on the radio say that he intends to emigrate to Australia once the Olympics are over. That?s good of him, saddle us with the bill and them piss-off out of it.

*London* taxpayers only, hopefully. Its the London Olympics not the UK/British/English Olympics.
No doubt the government will renage and bail out the overspend with eveyones money, though.

We have need of you again, great king.
Re: Tube- a disgrace?
The 'Wembley Experience' as a whole is shit really. All the time and money wasted and all they've done is plonked a stadium (a very nice one I'll grant you but.....) in exactly the same place as the old one and done nothing to develop and regenerate the surrounding area. So it's still a shit-hole and the transport links are as crap if not worse than they were before.
And a f*****g awful standard of playing surface as well.

Re: Tube- a disgrace?
I've been to the new Wembley and I can only agree with what Bristolian said in that it was a nightmare to get out of the stadium and back into central London via public transport.
I agree with some of the others that they should have built it elsewhere, a bit further to the north (but still in London) and nearer a motorway so cars could be used as well as public transport.

Re: Tube- a disgrace?
I don't have a problem with it being anti-car, more the scheme of 6 police horses blocking Wembley Way every 200 yards before announcing to 50,000 wet fans the bloddy obvious, namely 'you are being held in a queue because the trains are full'. Jesus wept. And as for the standard of football, don't get me started....I have commented on this before but the futire is to follow lower leagues. I watch Bristol Rovers when I can, it's on my doorstep, they care about fans, there is a real sense of community there and you don't get the sense of these privileged over-paid wankers who are so far removed from the hand that feeds them it is ridiculous. Yes, I didn't have to go to Wembley but never again...

How does that work then. Is there a track record of countries getting a payback for the Olympics then ?
