At the risk of looking a complete fool but here goes.Just received 3 videos from jaded.The problem is i can see the picture when rewinding or ff but when playing just a bunch of lines and no sound.nikki kennedy being looks fantastic fast forward but i want to see her real time.I can also see vida and sharon kane in les scenes.They are supposed to be vhs.Only took a week to arrive.

Different format NTSC/PAL maybe?
Can't be long play as it would be the other way around, at least I think it would be. Let me get back to you after a few beers....

How old is your VCR? Most modern ones can play NTSC (american) tapes with no problem.

My trusty old Akai from 1990 does show the symptoms you describe. But I love that machine (a bit).

My old Akai would only play PAL.
Found out by putting an NTSC tape in,instant rejection.

Have you tried taking them out of the box......

there probably the wrong format, some older video players wont play american formats, but modern one,s usually do,
why dont you e.mail the sellers and ask what format they sent you, if you dont get any joy, refer them to me! I know a man who knows some men, that know even more men

Jaded would have sent NTSC tapes - no need to e-mail them.

VHS can still come in NTSC and PAL formats, so checking your system is compatible should be your first port of call.

Otherwise, and as a bit of a long shot, have you tried adjusting the tracking on your VCR? In addition I seem to recall dirty heads (not a film, sadly!) on a VCR could produce a similar effect to the one you describe.

Which is why I asked if it happens on other tapes. Often, if a VCR is used for replay only, & never for recording, the heads (on a 2 head machine mainly) can get magnetized & need to be degaussed; simply done-- just put in a tape & hit "record" & wait 2-4 hours. May not be the problem but this possible solution costs nothing to try, & it has worked for me numerous times.
