I saw a newspaper headline today that screamed "MP's demand 10% pay rise"
Looked it up on Ceefax & apparently the Senior Salaries Review Body???
has recommended an increase in MP's pay from ?60675 at present to about ?66500 in 2011, the report goes on to say that some MP's argue that their salaries have long been falling behind those of other professions.
Nice work if you can get it, what other professions do MP's compare themselves with? I know of no others in the public sector who get rewarded so well for so little work, most MP's are simply Government voting fodder & wouldn't attract a decent salary outside of Parliament.
Funny how this news has been released whilst Parliament is in recess & there is very little opportunuty for public debate.
What next? do not be surprised to see a move to link expenses to salary, giving them another nice increase which will not need to be reported,
Any comments?
A merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you all.

A good example to us all?
Re: A good example to us all?
This happens all the time, whatever party is in power. The one thing these leeches can agree upon is pushing their own pay up well beyond the rate of inflation while agreeing that the public and private sector must tighten their belts.
Some might call it hypocrisy. To others, it's simple politics.

Not only have the government refused to agree to the pay award for the Police (not Scotland though) they have actually spent less, in real terms, on both internal and external defence. In 1982 the UK spent 5% of GDP on defence. In 2007 it spent 2.5% of GDP and that's accounting for particpating in two (illegal) wars.
