Hey, have you noticed all those fuckers with no Xmas trees or lights up? Are there more of ?em this year? What?s their fucking game, then? Are they taking the Mick? Are these party poopers jeopardising our beloved Crimbo traditions? Do you think someone needs to ?have a word with them? and ?smarten them up?, lest Christmas becomes just another dreary Bank Holiday? When I was a lad virtually everyone had a Christmas tree in the window and there was a sense that this was a very special happy time of year.
I was feeling a little downhearted as I contemplated these issues while on an Xmas shopping trip to the city centre. But then I came upon one of those animatronic puppet displays in a courtyard. There was a singing Santa and his reindeers amid a winter wonderland of plastic snow, holly and Christmas trees, and, at the very front, was a young mum and two little toddlers - who had their noses virtually pressed up against the perspex cabinet. From their demeanour it was clear that they found this festive tableau to be the most wondrous thing they had yet experienced in their short lives. As they sang and danced along with Santa and the reindeer I was suddenly overcome with a wave of optimism and warm festive spirit. Xmas is worthwhile, so let?s not let it wither and die.

Re: Christmas Cheer
Seriously, many people have various reasons for not celebrating Christmas, my Father being an example of one of them this year.
My mother passed away a couple of months ago and my Dads bungelow hasn't a shred of tinsel and nor does he want it.
This magical season can seem very harsh to people who are alone, haven't much money, or who have poor health, etc.
It's a time not just for celebrating, but Christmas is also a time for reflecting on those who aren't as fortunate and thanking our lucky stars that we still have our loved ones around us.
Sorry for getting so serious Dibble, I'll get off of my soap box now............merry Christmas.

Re: Christmas Cheer
Ever noticed Dibble how we're no longer living in the 1960s where everyone is white & christian?
Personally I put the apathetic attitude down to quite a few reasons
The over commericalising of X-mas is literally making Adults sick of the festive season......its lost its meaning
The self implosion of the Church with scandal after scandal hasled to a mass exodus from the mainstream religions and made quite a few cynical as hell about x-mas & easter
of course Political Correctness...only last year we were all being told to call it the holidays so as to not offend other religions, who incidentily eren't offended at all
Then theres new blues very valid points
My father every x-mas becomes severely depressed so x-mas decorations are a no no.of course the silly old bugger being from the generation that doesn't seek help suffers in silence while we sit in silence and suffer
merry x-mas to all those who do make the world a little bit more colourful for the Kids,be they big or small

Dibbsey, I fall into that catergory. As I live by myself I have no need to put up any Christmas decorations - there's no point.
I'm concerned (which I thought you would also share) about the chavs who put thier Xmas trees and lights up in the middle of September - what's the point of that?

Re: Christmas Cheer
My mother died just before Christmas a couple of years ago and my thoughts always turn to that as we run-up to the celebrations.
It does take the edge of the celebrations somewhat.
Happy Christmas anyway.

My mother died on Millennium Eve. Until then, we put up a tree with lights on the first Saturday in December, streamers and balloons on Christmas Eve and then took them all down on 5th January.
We took them all down on Millennium Eve, never to put them up again; and it was 2003 before I could talk my father into some decorations- a Candlebridge to light the way for lonely/cold/pissed travellers. Bear in mind that we can't see it in the house!
Merry Christmas to all- especially those with children.
