Polymaths

Post by colonel »

I'm always interested by Polymaths- people famous for two [or more] totally different things or occupations.

Here's just a few- maybe you know some more.

Jonathan Miller- brain surgeon and opera director

Conor Cruise O'Brien- at one point in the 1970s, editor of the Observer in London, Oxford don in politics and Irish Cabinet Minister -at the same time

Michael Buksh- creator and chief executive of Classic FM and [at the same time] 'Michael Barry' the chef on Food And Drink

Clement Freud- humorist, TV personality and MP

John Cornell- co-founder of World Series Cricket [Kerry Packer's cricket circus] and actor who played 'Strop', Paul Hogan's braindead surfer buddy in the Paul Hogan Show. Again- at the same time.

Hey!!

I never knew most of them and for the life of me can't think of any to add i'm afraid but im gonna have a think.

The most interesting for me was John Cornell. I can just remember the Paul Hogan Show. My Dad used to record it late night on Channel 4 if memeory serves. I had never forgotten the surfer chap in his silly hat and had always wondered who he was.

Excellent thread chap,hope it blooms!!
