Rise of the Footsoldier

Post by Mike_CFC »

Has anyone seen this film yet?

I want to buy it soon on DVD but would welcome opinions by people who have seen it.

It's another hooligan film that portrays the true story of Carlton Leach, who started out as a football hooligan and grew up to be one of the most feared Generals(Firm Leader) in England.

I just hope it does'nt go down the 'chav culture' road that Football Factory and Green Street took.

For the record the best hooligan film imo is 'The Firm'.The 1980's Alan Parker TV Film starring Gary Oldman which was based on West Ham's Inter City Firm and a rival gang.

I've seen it whereas it's well worth a watch I didn't think it was great as some of my mates thought it was.

Also it isn't a film deidciated to football hooligans. It charts Carlton Leach's rise through the ranks of the ICF and then when he started working the doors but the football stuff lasts about 30 mins at the start of the film and thats it.

It was alright. Watchable but no more than that.

I've been looking at the actual police evidence photos of the bodies inside the Range Rover, which are on the web, and they are graphic.

Managed to watch Rise of the Footsoldier yesterday. It was an ok film for the violence but very much OTT.The start of the film made me cringe, making out the ICF to be a bunch of invincibles which is a load of bollocks. Also the scene where Millwall were waiting for them at a tube station platform dressed in surgical masks and wielding slaying knives, with no sign of O.B anywhere, yeah right!!!!.

Very colorful script though,i thought i was worse at using the 'c' word !grin!.

They might as well of called it Football Factory II,there was enough actors in it from Football Factory bar that wanker Danny 'nawty' Dyer.

The gangster part of the film was good.Very brutal scenes and good performances from Billy Murray and Craig Fairbrass.
