For the past few years I,ve been using dial-up with no problems,
but today I have woken up with a uncontrolable urge to get myself Broadband. I know your thinking "teenagers today" and tutting to yourselves but hear me out.
I can download mpegs, files and stuff from my favourite sites at the speed of shite, or so I,m told. Can anyone enlighten me?
anyone using it?.
Answers in by midnight if possible because, if it,s favourible
I can get it tommorow at 1/2 price, aythenkuu.

Re: Broadband. o/t
I'm with NTL Broadband (512k) and have had it for a year. Trust me you will never regret having taken the plunge.
Whenever i use a computer with a dial-up connection, it is seriously slow compared with broadband. Go for it...

Re: Broadband. o/t
I've had 512k broadband since feb of last year and have just taken the leap into 1mb broadband. Now paying ?35 month which is what I was paying all those years ago in the dark ages with the phone line.

Hi
Moved to blueyonder 3 months ago. Don't know how I survived for so long without it. No technical problems whatsoever. If you're not technically minded - it would be sensible to fork out the extra if you need to get a network card installed.
Cheers

Yes - I'm on Blueyonder and I agree with what's already been said PLUS the installation was a cinch - much to my amazement!!

Don't know how I managed in the Dark Ages before broadband. If you're a heavy net user, go for it.

Re: Broadband. o/t
If you go the cable route. make sure you use a network card rather than the USB connection - much more reliable and far less processor/resource hungry than the USB route.
If ADSL, I would personally get the line checked before spending money on one of those pre-packaged modem kits you can buy in Dixons and the like. There is no guarantee that an old BT line will be of sufficient quality for ADSL to work.

Re: Broadband. o/t
Lets face it, in a few years I bet even Broadband will seem slow.
The question is, is how fact does the conection need to be to get FULL tv images trasmited down the line, so its the same quality as the TV you have now.
That will be when the net changes.
Just think, rather than buying DVD's, you will be able to watch LIVE quality shows, choose the angles, zoom and so on, even record them to your own DVD to watch later if you wanted.
That will be the greatest change.
Just think, anyone with a decent vidio camera and conection to the web could have there own on line TV station, without the worry or cost of licencefees, broacast eqipment and so on.
It does beg the question even now, why do we have to pay the TV licence (a tax) for the BBC when we have so much choice.
But back to Broadband, lets face it, I bet you are spending ?15 at the moment a month, for a few more pounds, you will get speed and I think you can still use your phone line.
I know somone who downloads overnight full cd's of music and comedy, then listens to them on the way to work.
You only live once, if you want it get it. I bet a few years ago you were saying, should you get a pc, then it was should you get on the net.

Re: Broadband. o/t
so how does bb work? do i still have to rent a line from bt? if i get a 512k connection does the D/L speed drop off like a dial up. when i connect on a dial up i get a connection of 46k(shamefull i know) but when i D/L mpegs or whatnot the speed drops off to about 5k. is there a similer drop off with bb? if bb is not available in my area is there any way of getting it(its not, by the way. bastard bt.)?
