Self chooses to perpetuate the view of performers as victims eg supporting a drug habit with their earnings. Whether or not he intends this to be read as a generalisation is neither here nor there because in all probability it will be accepted or endorsed by many of his readers as a truth.

Clearly it's no more the truth than it is to believe in a generalisation based on Will Self that journalists are victims who use their craft to feed their addictions.

He's also used that tired old journalistic hyperbole whereby they are unable, or unwilling, to differentiate between the legal adult porn and the illegal child porn.
