For me it's knowing your club's history.Every club has some form of history, their existence can be deemed historic in it's own right.
Knowing your club's songs and chants,no matter how derogatory or friendly they may be.Respecting your club's players from the past,i was'nt even an itch when the likes of Osgood,Harris,Cooke,Hudson etc were strutting their stuff at The Bridge, but would of given my right arm to watch them if i was around at the time
The most important factor though is standing by your club and still support them,no matter how bad they are performing.
I started following Chelsea in the 1980's when they were yo-yo'ing between the old Div 1 and Div 2.At times we flirted periously with Div 3.I've seen countless managers sacked from Eddie McCreadie to Jose Mourinho, not forgetting John Neal-Chelsea's WORST ever manager imo.
While Liverpool were thrashing everyone around them during the 80's i stuck by my club,i'd rather stick needles in my eyes than support Liverpool, though i'd be lying if i said i did'nt envy Liverpool at the time.
I for one appriciate Chelsea's turn in fortune, but would NEVER take it for granted, like they say,NOTHING lasts forever.
But for as long as i live,i'll NEVER desert my beloved Chelsea FC and Stamford Bridge.Hell,i don't even want us to move Stadium, which is highly being talked about.
If you feel the same way about your team as i do about mine, then that makes you a genuine football fan !drink!
What makes a genuine football fan?
What makes a genuine football fan?
