How sick!!!!

I was reading the other day that a group of sick thugs ruined the new memorial to mark the 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster which will be on the 6th February

The thugs daubed the memorial, which is situated at Old Trafford with spray paint causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

These were obviously Man City fans.I have no affection for Man Utd but still think that is a sick thing to do,to disrespect one of the biggest sporting disasters in living memory.

Man Utd play at home to their City rivals next Saturday and will wear the same style shirts as the Busby babes did that year,with no sponsor logo.

Plans are also in place for a minutes silence at all Premiership and football league grounds next Saturday and Sunday to mark the anniversary.

Somehow i can't see City fans observing that silence.

Some think it was Man Utd supporters who objected to the sponsor's logo being on it. I hope that's not the case,it would be really sick.
Was a bit annoyed that sky didn't show the song being sung at half time on Wednesday by Mick Groves,"The Flowers Of Manchester".A truly evocative tribute to those who died.

City fans have got their own song planned apparantley.Very easy and basic to learn.It's called "We're all going to the Golden Jubillee" and goes to the tune of 'Yellow Submarine".They will never let it go,will they?

Going to Chelsea in the 1980's we too were guilty of that.Those that remember the cry "Chelsea celebrate Munich 58" and "Always look on the runway for ice" to the tune of Monty Python will know what i'm on about.But as you get older you realise it was the wrong thing to do.

The youngsters that go to Chelsea today still sing sick songs about Munich because they want to emulate their older fans,but they do get a slap for all their troubles.

We're at home to the Scousers next Sunday,who also won't let the sick singing go away.

Sometimes i think that Matthew Harding's Helicopter crash which resulted in his death was caused an example of bad karma by us fans who also would'nt stop singing vicious songs about Munich.

Can I ask why someone would think it was in the least bit funny to sing about in the first place? Any humorous songs about Hillsborough you'd care to share with us?

The Munich tragedy casts a long, long shadow in English football. Celebrating the death of sportsmen, as well as the others who died in the crash, makes about as much sense as holding a Black September day to party on the anniversary of the other Munich tragedy---the murder of Israeli athletes by cowardly terrorists.

Man Utd supporters aren't averse to singing sick songs about Hillsborough Mike.Unfortunately i don't think these songs will ever go away while the tribal nature of supporting a club is present.

Scousers,City fans as well as Leeds fans still to this day sing songs about Munich.

Man U fans retaliate by singing about Hillsborough or mocking Don Revie or Billy Bremner.

If you read my post properly you would notice that as a grown up i regretted it.I still hate Man United but the singing of Munich has stopped.

I wasn't having a go at you, Mike, as much as what Colin referred to as the tribal nature of fans. In previous posts about sick football chants, I owned up to stuff that my own club's fans have sung---nasty, nasty stuff. That doesn't change my views of the team.

The reason I brought up Hillsborough, and the Munich Olympics, was to put it into some kind of perspective.

I've heard of opposition fans making hissing, gas-like noises at White Hart Lane because of Spurs' allegedly-Jewish fanbase. Only the moronic mob mentality of a football crowd could think it's funny to associate themselves with genocide.

In the end, in spite of what Bill Shankly said, it's only football and isn't as important as life and death.

You're right,i doubt it will ever go away.

When you start following a football club at a young age you don't only research your club's History,you also research the History of your bitter rivals to see if there's any ammunition you can use to upset them.

It is passed down from father to son.Reason why it will never go away.

Caractacus should take heed of this.

It's mainly Chelsea and West Ham fans that make hissing,gas sounding noises at Spurs fans because they are based in a Jewish community of North London.That too has been going on since the 60's 70's.

Colin is right.It is all tribal and has nothing to do with football itself

But Munich WAS football related,as was Hillborough,so the perspective is different.

The father to son thing has brought generations of hatred up here, with the fans of two teams who want to refight the history of Ireland and the Christian schism of Catholic and Protestant again and again. FTP chants are no more welcome than pro-IRA songs, and anyone with a brain should dissociate themselves from that kind of culture.
