Overpopulation of the world - why ?

Post by Arch Stanton »

Why is it that in Africa and India etc which have appalling poverty, the birth rate is rocketing and poverty is set to get even more acute with the world population eventually doubling. If you were in a poverty stricken environment how can you possibly find anyone who is sexually attractive enough to fuck and what is the point if it results in offspring who just increase the number of people who have almost nothing to live on ?

One big factor is a lack of education into contraception. Hence the huge numbers of HIV+'s in the places you mention too.

Inspite of the huge infant mortality rate there are still more than enough offspring who make it to adulthood and produce more offspring.

Forget the Developing World, how about every city in the UK?

It's always the families with nowt that amble through shopping centres with hordes of kids in nylon and savage haircuts. Nothing to do with education, everyone knows how babies are made, everything to do with stupidity and the depression of poverty.

The figures really worry me in England, as responsible parents limit the size of their families and the irresponsible breed like rabbits producing an ever-increasing number of unproductive drains on society. It's enough to make you spit.

just lickme is most probably right about it being down to lack of education. Africa has got to be one of the maddest places to live in the world right now, especially the real poverty stricken zones.

I would also like to add that sex must be seen as some kind of comfort in an environment where such things are few but if they were smart enough they'd use a jimmy hat. Why bring more children into the misery they are suffering.

Thing is we are not in that environment so its always easy to judge but sometimes a good shag can make hell that place a bit more tolerable.

true, sex is one of the few pleasures poverty stricken people can enjoy that costs nothing.
However condoms cost money and I guess a lot of people simply can't afford them, it may be a choice of condom or food
plus religion plays a bit part with uneducated people with the banning of contraception...nice one catholic church

we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester

The overpopulation problems of the developing world is obvious, and I thought common knowledge.

It's called 'penicillin.'

Diseases always made sure that 60% of your children would never reach adulthood, in the past, so having 10 kids made sure you reduced 3-4 that would grow up and help you work the land or have a few daughters you could sell.

During the 20th century, penicillin reduced infant mortality, not only across Europe but colonial outposts like India, Pakistan, Malaysia and China as well. Unlike Europe where women were gaining liberation, rights and building careers that slowed the birth rate, in developing nations the women are still treated as baby factories. Because the infant mortality rate has gone down, yet birth rates have stayed the same, the populations have boomed.

In the developed world of today, our population increases are more to do with how long we're living due to medical advances and care. In 1900's Britain only 10% of the population was of retirement age, while today it's over 30%. In 50 years we may have a situation where there are more people retired than working adults paying taxes.

Only educating, and liberating women reduces family sizes; it is this, rather than contraception, that will halt theever increasing growth of our species.

As for finding someone sexually attractive in a poverty-stricken environment: Surely sexual attraction is relative to the populace you're surrounded by? I'd have thought Archy -having read all these books on psychology- would have known this most obvious of obvious facts?

I'm beginning to think you've not read any books on the human condition at all, Archy.

Sam your comments threw up memories of a cartoon I saw in my youth where cowboys were fighting over an old granny who was the only female around.

I just wish I can remeber which cartoon it was. Even as a kid I found that odd but amusing.
