The NOTW today has an article about plans to install Shopping trolley's with Sat Nav,to help customers find their way around Supermarkets. It's the sort of article one would expect from The Sunday Sport, but i shit you not.
I started off on the Shop Floor side of the retail trade before being promoted to the Logistics side, and judging by the Customer Service attitudes of some shop assistants, this idea would not surprise me,if it's implemented.
How about other ideas that sound crazy, but you would'nt bet against them happening.
Like Sunglasses for eskimos?.What with the ice caps melting, the poor luvvies will look cool in a pair of Raybans as they get used to the climate change.
Or what about surfboards/lilo's for pets?.Why leave your pet isolated when they can join in on the fun, mind you, would help if they can swim !laugh!
Anymore ideas from you lovely peeps would be more than welcome !thumbsup!
Crazy idea, don't bet against it happening

Why not just stop moving the stuff around the store in the first place?
I know why they do it, but sat nav technology would negate the reason for shelf switching, and stopping shelf switching would negate the need for sat nav.

We have need of you again, great king.

Hey,don't blame me for stuff being moved around !laugh!.I'm out of that side now.Peace and quiet now for me not having to deal with customers.
I spent 2 years on the display team.I loved it when customers got wound up about products being moved around !grin!
Peter:The answer to your question is to maximise productivity and make room for more variety and to accomadate new products.

Bollocks! It's to get people to see more product whilst searching for what they want in the hope that the impulse buy!

Yes,impulse buying is another factor. But impulse buying is on the customers look out. They're not being forced to buy it,but they will buy new products on impulse and curiousity. eg:trial and error.
Sat Nav on Shopping trolley's sounds crazy, but with some un-helpfull Supermarket staff you come across at times,it would'nt be a bad idea,eh?

Here, here, if it's one thing that does my head in, it's changing the stock around every six months. The Bastards.

But its all about knowing where things are. Most people use the same supermarket all the time, and learn where the things they want are. Its when they go and find the stock has been rotated that confusion sets in. You wouldn't need sat nav or staff to tell people where things are if they weren't somewhere else this week.
I can't see how spending 000's on sat nav trolleys is going to benefit anyone when the same old be achieved for free by simply stopping moving the bloody beans every month!

its actually a good idea and here's why
In Leatherhead there is a high percentage of care homes, blind homes and people with special needs (Jim, why did you bring me here). Last month they changed Sainsburys layout and it was so confusing even I got frustrated. Everyone was asking the workers where everything was. And the partially sited people were being shown around with a specific worker from the shop. I counted 13 workers in all doing this.
So it can be helpful, you just have to think out of the box and not assume everyone is able bodied/sited.
