Materazzi wins apology

Although he's an uncompromising defender Materazzi doesn't deserve to have lies made-up about him which the paper in question openly admitted. I suppose the newspaper's justification is that the claim to have an exclusive about what Materazzi supposedly said to Zidane boosts the paper's circulation and maybe they syndicate the story ?

If they're paying damages and Materazzi's legal costs is the story still profitable I wonder ?
