LONDON (Reuters) - A man who murdered his mother, father, sister and twin nephews was must spend the rest of his life in jail, one of the country's top judges ruled on Friday.
Justice Michael Tugendhat said he backed the Home Secretary and that Jeremy Bamber, who was jailed in 1986 for the notorious killings, should never be released.
"These murders were exceptionally serious. In my judgment you ought to spend the whole of the rest of your life in prison," the judge said in a written statement.
In August 1985, Bamber's mother June, and six-year-old nephews Nicholas and Daniel were found shot dead in their beds.
The body of his father, Neville, was found slumped downstairs, and his sister Sheila Caffell -- a model known as "Bambi" -- was found dead by her parents' bed.
Bamber was convicted in October 1986 at Chelmsford Crown Court of murdering his five relatives at the family farmhouse White House Farm in Tolleshunt D'Arcy, Essex, but has always claimed he was innocent.
His fingerprints were found on a gun that was used in the murder and his former girlfriend, Julie Mugford, told police how he plotted to murder his parents in order to inherit 500,000 pounds.
The verdict was the latest round in a long legal battle fought by Bamber, initially against his conviction and now against the time he must remain locked away.
The courts have already thrown out appeals by Bamber ruling that his conviction was safe.

Some of the evidence back then was very 'iffy' and Sheila was a real head case, but given the facts, I think he did it as well

I always thought he did. If he didn't, then he only has his own cold, cynical self to blame for his current position---that and the hedonistic lifestyle he pursued.
If I recall correctly, both he and Bambi were adoptive children, and she definitely had some mental problems. If she did kill her children and her parents, and herself, then the evidence doesn't hold up---leaving Jeremy as the likely killer. He's made various attempts over the years to get his conviction quashed, with no luck. This latest move was to seek a release date---and that's failed too. Looks like he'll die in prison.
Murder accusations apart, he seems to share one thing with teenage Scottish killer Luke Mitchell (who also protests his innocence for the brutal murder of his girlfriend Jodi Jones): they are contemptible human beings.

I read about this case a few years ago.
People that knew the family said that Jeremy had a problem with Sheila being favoured over him by their parents.
He also allegedly tried to sell nude pictures of Sheila to the press after the murder, coupled with him going off on a lavish holiday afterwards also just shows to me what a cold and evil person he is.

Perhaps he is---but as Shelley said, he attempted to sell photos of his sister in the aftermath of the tragedy and that cast more of a prejudicial light on him than the press ever could.
A greedy, self-centred individual, yes. A killer? The jury and several appeal judges decided he was. If he didn't commit the crime, he pretty much has himself to blame for making himself such a convincing villain of the piece.

There was also the gun silencer that was placed back in the gun cabinet which had a minure trace of Sheila's blood on.
Bamber's defence is that has was with Police at the alledged time of the shooting and that he claims to have recieved a phone call from his father saying that his sister had lost it and was threatening to kill them all.
He has passed lie detector tests which ask the questions 'did you kill your family'?
To me it all points towards Bamber possibly hiring a hit on them all, he had the motive, hatred and greed to do so, he wanted the whole family estate hence the killing of his young nephews.
He has also unsuccessfully tried to claim the one and a half million estate which was his grandmothers.
