Personally I don't think Rijkaard's going to get the job. I have the feeling it's between Scolari and Hughes with Mancini a third option.

Hughes is 8/15 for the Man City job though and Ladbrokes even go 1/3 on that.

Hughes may see Man C as a step up, but it is hardly as "safe" as the Blackburn job.

Mind you, signing a 3 or 4 year contract, and then getting sacked after a year (probably with a big payoff), like Erikson did, is a nice bit of business.

Maybe he is trying to screw a better contract out of Blackburn, after showing them other clubs are after him.

Or even showing Chelsea he is available (but is he "big" enough for Chelsea, after all he has never won anything with Blackburn, or even got them near the top of the table - although I do think he has done a good job with limited resources).

Yes Hughes is "big enough" for Chelsea... he knows what the Premiership is like to play in and manage in, unlike "bigger" names such as Scolari (who hasn't been in club management for many a year and has never managed in any of the "big four" European leagues)

Hughes would be available now, while if RA really is after Scolari, we'd have wasted the whole month until Euro 2008 is done and dusted. In the meantime we could be losing some of our top players and missing out on bringing others in during this state of flux.

Waiting for Scolari is as big a mistake as making Grant manager in the first place. Only Ancellotti is a better candidate than Hughes out of all those mentioned in the media.

I agree with Bob 100%.

Waiting for Scolari could be a disastrous own goal.

Chelsea need to get it sorted as soon as possible and Hughes would hit the ground running in a way that the foreign candidates could not.

Chelsea will get whoever is desperate enough to put up with the Russian meddler at the helm. They could still be looking in August.
None of the top managers metioned are short of a million or five so a big salary may not be enough to tempt them.
Hughes is off to City, which is a real backward step and will seriously ruin his chances of replacing Fergie at Man U.

I think Roman should appoint a die hard Chelsea fan for the new managers post.At least they know the club though and through and they would also have the nous to stand up to the likes of Kenyon and his cronies.

With Sparky now at Eastlands and rumours of interest in the managers of Roma and Fiorentina I dread to think who we'll end up with.

Rijkaard? Spineless... allowed Ronaldhino to party late and miss training

Scolari? OK so he's won a world cup with Brazil, but he has never managed at club level in Europe, let alone at a big club in one of the "big four" leagues. Looks even more miserable than Avram Grant.

Hiddink? He's done well with middling nations (Australia & Korea) but his biggest test, how well Russia do in Euro 2008, is yet to come. Originally said the Russia job would be his last in management anyway.

Ancelotti? Looks very promising with a UEFA cup win with Parma and a Scudetta and 2 Champions Leagues with Milan. Probably the most attack-minded Italian coach, but that's a bit like comparing a tortoise to a snail!!!

Deschamps? Did OK at Monaco on a very limited budget and seemed to be doing well with Juventus. Not really tested in the biggest leagues, though (never managed in Serie A)


I wouldn't want to see any of the first three; Rijkaard especially after what he said about Chelsea a couple of years ago. Deschamps is a free agent, so at least we don't need permission to speak to him.

Tbh Bob i'm really frustrated with Abramovich for snubing Sparky,obviously because he's not Hollywood enough' for Abramovich.Sparky was cleary THE fans favourite.

I really am beginning to believe that this is surely the end of Chelsea Football Club as a 'fans' club.

It's certainly not the club that i fell in love with 24 years ago.
