Quentin Tarantino's "Deathproof"...

Post by max_tranmere »

Anyone seen "Deathproof"? I watched it for the first time this week. It's a brilliant film, full of 1970's retro bar scenes, vehicles and dialogue. My only gripe is how savage the car crash scene is - I am sure that scene alone bumped the rating up from a 15 to an 18. The scene where one of the girls lapdances Kurt Russell in that red-neck bar was brilliant. Tarantino is great at digging up old forgotten songs and giving them a whole new life. The song she dances to is by The Coasters, who I had never even heard of, and has the great line "he wears a red bandana, plays a cool piana [piano], in a honky-tonk, down in Mexico...". I've got so into it that I've researched The Coasters and information about the song online. Anyone else seen the film and what did you think? As I say, it's brilliant, but the car crash didn't have to be so graphic!

thought it was bloody awful myself - although I agree, the tunes were brilliant, and the lap dance scene was extremely sexy
Overall a crap film though imo

Really liked it. Tarantino did talk about the car crash scene in a magazine interview and said it wasnt supposed to be pleasant.

You seen those adverts for road traffic awareness in the cinemas?. Theyre the same without the gore.

Road traffic accidents are not mean to be pleasant to watch and it was the highlight of that movie before it segued into the second act.

I loved the music and the all round 70's feel of the movies as well...especially the jump cut editing and the crackling soundtrack.

I also like the way Tarantino links his films together. In Deathproof you hear a mention of a Big Kahuna Burger outlet, located next to one of the billboards with the girl's face on it. Big Kahuna Burger is of course the burger joint that Jules refers to in Brett's kitchen in Pulp Fiction.

Oh, he's got lots of little links like that in his films...'California Red Apples' are the brand of cigarette that Bruce Willis asks for in 'Pulp Fiction', and you can clearly see two billboards for the same fictitious brand of cigarettes when Uma Thurman arrives in Japan in 'Kill Bill Vol. 1' (One on top of a building as the plane comes in, and one in the airport as she walks past).

I think his ideas are tidies and childish and quit obviously are made to appeal to kids regardless of what certificate it has on it. He's had 2 good movies, Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. I personally think someone should do a background check on him because his films are always fucked in the head. Mindless in your face violence. I?m not prude I just think violence is not always important to a story line. I usually find psychological stuff more scary and disturbing than the stuff we see in Hostile or Kill Bill. I think he?s a lucky man myself. Spike lee is a better director.

Wonder what old movie he`s ripped this off from

Bukkake shots where you are with a few other guys...is fucking gay.

In fact, about pulling trains with a woman...you wanna have sex with other guys and mix your sperm with theirs...you're just using a woman as a conduit.
