Sky TV & the Premier League
Sky TV & the Premier League
Just glancing through the news today I saw that Sky announced their quarterly results.
It caught my eye that the Premier League football contract costs Sky 47% of their total sports expenditure (although it only accounts for 1% of their sports broadcast time).
I also noticed that Sky spend more on Sports than everything else put together: 55% of their programme costs are for Sky Sports.

I presume SS is the 'killer app' of BSkyB, and is responsible for bring most of their customers in. I know I bought it for football, and am reluctant to move to any other HD service due to lack of football.
We have need of you again, great king.
Re: Sky TV & the Premier League
I am sure like a lot of people, I only have Sky because of the Premier league football.
If they lost that I would probably cancel Sky.
I currently dont have Setanta, but if Sky lost their Premier league football to say Setanta (or another company) I would subscribe to Setanta and cancel Sky completely.

I wouldn't cancel my Sky if they lost the footie, just the Sky sports part,I think a monthly sub to Setanta is about the same as Sky sports,so not really a problem if they lose it to them..
Re: Sky TV & the Premier League
Yes agree with you completely michaeldon. If Sky lost the Premier League I'd cancel Sky Sports, but I'd keep the basic Sky subscription.
It's not possible to compare costs, because if Setanta got the lion's share of the Premier League games they would no doubt hike their subscription price.

No, the subscribers' have to pay for that via their monthly/yearly subscriptions - 'ol Pork Pie is merely a conduit.

The prima donna footballers!!!!!
The prima donna footballers!!!!!
Re: Sky TV & the Premier League
Doesn't who gets the cash depend on where the footballers spend it?
