hey

Should we be concerned about this?

Well obviously we should. Apart from the simple fact that this looks like turning into a huge humanitarian crisis on par with the early days of the Bosnian conflict. The response of Western leaders,to this military action will almost certainly have a knock on effect for every single one of us.

I remember back in the early nineties, there was a TV clip from Russia that used to do the rounds now and again. It was a debate between two Russian politicians. Suddenly one of the chaps attacks the other. Throwing things and trying to punch the other chap. Hillarious. Oh how we laughed, right? Fast forward to 1997. And we start to realise that the chap throwing the puches was Vladamir Putin. Suddenly not that funny.

You see back in 1992 NATO dropped the ball in a big way. Rather than embrace Russia,it seems they went out of their way to humiliate them. Remember how amussing that Boris Yeltzin fella was. Again how we laughed. For some reason Washington (amougst others to be fair) seemed to think former 'hard line' Communists and KGB members would simply mealt away and accept the New World order. Big mistake. The powers that be also assumed that no one in Russia would mind, that Georgia called the White House before consulting the Kremlin on any International affairs. And was vying for NATO and EU membership.

So now we are in the postion where a former Hard line member of the KGB is running the country that is supplying a huge percentage of the worlds energy suply and raw materials. And guess what? He is pissed!! And just dying for a chance to stick it to the west. He knows that if we condemn his actions he can pretty much just 'turn the taps off' This has happened before and it will almost certainly happen again. Russia really wants to flex it's muscle and show the world that it is and shall remain a major player in the modern world.

Couple this with the forth coming war with America over the pesky missile silos in Turkey. Oh and the sudden reappearance of un-explained and un-authorised TU-95 bombers within UK airspace. It's fair to say we should probably be more than a little concerned.

Cheers

I knew Zhirinovsky was one of the punching- I hadn't realised that Putin was the other!

No wonder we haven't seen the clip for a while.......
