Oh labour when are you going to learn......
I wonder if Alistair Campbell was behind the timing of the George Osborne, Peter Mandelson and the russian billionaire "leak" to try and hide this set of figures..........
"Violent crime is up by 22% because the police have failed to record it correctly, according to the Home Office.
Jacqui Smith told Sky News she was not "explaining away" the increase, but said: "We need to be completely confident that we are recording things in the right way.
"We need to account properly so we can deal with it properly."
The Home Secretary explained that in some areas serious violence - such as threatening someone with a broken bottle - was not counted as violent crime.
The category includes serious assault, murder, attempted murder and manslaughter.
Officials said 13 forces were asked to re-examine their figures after they discovered some serious assaults were being recorded in a lower category of offence.
They admitted the under-counting could have been going on for more than 10 years.
Two of the most serious categories of knife crime also shot up after the miscounting was revealed.
Attempted murders in England and Wales involving a knife between April and June this year were 28% up on last year."
Alistair Campbell will spin Labour to another election win......... the man's a master at his art !
22% increase in violent crime
22% increase in violent crime

Re: 22% increase in violent crime
Miscounting = fiddling.
I wonder if I'll be allowed to get away with 'miscounting' my tax return?

We have need of you again, great king.
Re: 22% increase in violent crime
Baffled by this Von Boy.
They have stated that crime has gone up because figures now show crimes that were not being recorded as none violent crime are now being recorded as violent crime.
In other words they have admitted that violent crime has increased.
How that turns into any spin never mind a positive one by Campbell confuses me.
I am currently involved in 'discussions' with my local Police force about crime figures because although crime where I live has gone up our local Conservative council are saying it hasn't because the figures don't show it.
That's spin (and bollocks) if you want an example.

Re: 22% increase in violent crime
By spin I mean that Ally Campbell WOULD get bad news hidden behind, hopefully, a press campaign on Osborne etc.
Labour have tried this trick before......don't forget a labour minister emailed colleagues on sept 11th 2001 saying "this is a good day to hide bad news"

I'd have to argue that it was minister but would prefer to point out that it was picked up by the media.
They tried, quite rightly they failed and were sacked.
You can guarantee that when Green Dave's bum chum Ozzy was caught with his pants down the rest of the whoops-a-daisy clan were looking for instant negatives to combat his publicity.
You can also guarantee that unless Ozzy's antics make Green Dave's polls look bad he won't be sacked.

Re: 22% increase in violent crime
Everyone knew the police were purposely miscounting the figures, in order to prove how good they were in fighting crime. Now they've been found out, it's no surprise.
They were virtually admitting to fiddling all along by year-on-year telling us that crime had gone down, but then in the next breath always claiming to be short of manpower and needing more money/resources to fight crime. They wanted their cake and to eat it,
A country gets the police/government they deserve, so it's said --- that's why we've got this shit/shit combination.
