Now Kajagoogoo are reforming !!

Post by max_tranmere »

Incredible! Is there no 80's band that are not reforming? First Culture Club, then Duran, then Yazoo, then Spandau, now it's Limahl and co!! I wonder how popular this reunion will be. Who are we going to have next? Maybe Blancmonge should do a reunion tour. Neil Arthur could get his hair permed in that crazy way all over again!!

Oh no, please!!!

80s bands tend to reform for a couple of reasons. One, it usually means that their respective careers usually go down the toilet when a group doesn't have their original lead singer, or vice versa. Two, they reform because they know that they can still make money as there is very little competition out there these days with the influx of boy/girl groupsplaying glorified karoke 'concerts'. People want to see and hear real music, with real instruments and written by the artists themselves.

As for Duran Duran, in truth they never really split up. Okay, they did witter down to just Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes but, they still toured in their own right and played arenas. I was still watching them then, and they were still great to watch. Yes, the Taylors did come back into the fold (before Andy walked out again). Depeche Mode are currently on yet another World Tour and selling out big arenas and stadiums. I don't think we can expect any of our favourites to be doing what they did in the 80s, with the album, tour, album, tour scenario. We all get older and our bodies cannot do it anymore, and wives and kids come along.

I remember the drummer saying on a programme a few years ago that he hadn't played the drums since the band broke up in the 1980's. Therefore he had better get practicing!

Blancmange reformed about three years ago and are making a new album.

Obviously the thirtysomething/80s nostalgia demograph is still a rich one to mine. It's difficult to think of a band of that era who either haven't reformed or are still going anyway.

Kaja suggests the thin end though. They were (sorry) just a bit 'too shite'.

That 'classic' line-up (chortle) only lasted 1 year (3 singles & 1 album)!
By all accounts, Limahl was a real prima donna and the rest of the band were all mates, hence they kicked him out and put out new material 8 months after Too Shy hit number 1.
It's also true that the core of the band (apart from Jez the drummer & Limahl) have been performing on and off for years anyway. They were on "VH1 Bands Reunited" 5 years ago and it was all staged & scripted

They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?
