Now Alex is going for full independance!

Alex, the man who pioneered the term 'the Scottish Government' and bizarelly got everyone else to use the term too (as I said on another thread) said this morning he is going to put an independence referendum to the Scottish people in the coming year. What do people think the outcome will be? Will Westminster just completely break ties with Scotland, if Alex's referendum is a sucess, and if England and Scotland become as seperate as England and France presently are? Will Scotland be able to survive on its own, and will it even really be independant when you consider it will remain part of the EU - with Brussels making many of its decisions? Imagine the implications for Defence? It will be the England & Wales army fighting in Afghanistan (as that war will still be going decades from now), there will be a Scotland army obviously aswell. Do people think King Alex will get his wish, and what will the implcations be for the Scots, and for the English? My feeling is that whatever happens Scotland will always win and England will always lose. If they needed to have vast injections of cash for years after independance then England will still keep giving it to them.

Well if it does happen, at least the English tax payers won't have to subsidise the Scots any more.

JR, its even worse that you describe because the oil is finite. When that runs out, and this is assuming an independant Scotland is getting all the revenue from it, the money coming into Scotland will be masively reduced, but like I say England will just give Scotland more money. There will be something with a name like 'the post-'independance agreement' where England will just keep giving them 10's of billions for ever more. As I said earlier, Scotland will always win with these sorts of things and England will always lose.

Won't happen as I think the Scottish People can quite clearly see that the Scottish Government (as Max and Alex call it) couldn't run a piss up in a fucking brewery ... You just need to look at how they decked themselves out in luxury at the Scottish Parliament which looks like something a couple of Cub Scouts put together in a weekend.

Politics in Scotland has just become a mirror image of Politics in Westminster but of course we have changed the tories for the SNP and all arguments are not about moving the country forward but just having a snipe at the other party and their failures.

The 'government' north of the border are a minority adminstration, therefore if most of the people there dont want independence then they wont get it. I think Alex Salmond wants to acheive this so he can go down in history as the 'father of Scottish independance' and the 'man who made it all happen', someone who will have statues built of him all over Scotland (think many 20 foot tall statues of Alex in his tartan kilt, hat, cheeky smile, etc). He has an enourmous ego that man.
