Firefox 3.5.3 Now Out but...

Post by Deano! »

Firefox 3.5.2 was crashing and telling me that most web pages could not be found. I found IE8 was much more stable and quicker and Opera was even better (more handy features).

But, just to be sure to be sure I opened Firefox again only to find it had updated to 3.5.3. It also immediately warned me to update my Adobe Flash Player as this "could cause some stability issues".

Relieved that they'd finally fixed it, I updated the player and restarted the browser as instructed. I went to the Mozilla homepage to find more info and guess what - yep, CRASH!!!!

You think you've got problems lol

Firefox is crashing out on every chat site I use and Internet Explorer is doing the same.

I must admit after having no problems with Opera, the idea of having to nurse Firefox through its sickness didn't appeal so I just left it be. Firefox has a great download manager allowing me to download multiple image files (of nature studies of course) even after closing the tab, which is why I thought of giving it another go.

I've tried disabling AVG safesearch and Skype was never enabled. I haven't tried safe mode yet. I think I can just wait and see if Mozilla organise a Plug in/Add On/Extension manager that checks compatibly problems for you.

Ah yes you're talking about 'educational' images right? !wink!

I'd give Firefox another chance mate. Do a thorough uninstall with the Revo Uninstaller, then re-install Firefox from scratch, and see how you get on. As said it could be an add-on that is causing the problem, tho I also use *DownThemAll and it works fine for me.

*I'm assuming that's the manager you're referring to.

Firefox used to be great prior to 3.0 but ever since the constant updates after V3, its not as good as now. Often when i open FF it says its crashed before it actually opens :(

I also use Opera as my standard browser, but I have issues with that one too. One thing Opera really struggles with is the webpage of the Sun (the newspaper). My old version of Opera was killed almost every time I went there (and even left a zombie thread I had to kill by hand to be able to restart Opera). The Opera update does not die anymore there, but still struggles badly.

Firefox is my backup browser that usually works when Opera struggles.

I use Safari - on OSX and Windows XP. May be worth a try.

Safari? Apart from it's speed it has nothing to offer - especially on windows. It was hacked within 10 seconds at the annual 'pwn2own' contest while IE8 and Firefox took a few hours.

Chrome was the only browser that couldn't be hacked and it's faster than Safari. The only downside is the lack of add-ons.

Mind you, the contest was in March and Firefox are pretty nifty on updating security holes (unlike Microsoft). I wouldn't browse with IE8 or Safari whatsoever.
