Kit help for POV shoots - lens, stabilizsers?

Post by georgexxx »

Anyone got their preferred kit?

I have a couple of canon HV30 HD camcorders. The picture quality on these is awesome. It rivals many of the Much bigger/heavier hd cameras. There are many picture sharpness/colour quality comparisons on the web that show that.

... but ...

It's a light camcorder and even though it has image stabilizers, it becomes shakycam when moving about, especially during pov shoots when you are a little preoccupied with performing too. ;)

Also, the zoom button thing is in the worse possible position. so easy to accidentaly press. You glance at the girl your banging away, and glance back at the camera, and your fully zoomed. :D

Also, it seems quite zoomed in even at the widest angle, as you are right on the girl.

... So ...

Do any of you use camcorders for POV shoots?

Do you use wide angle lenses?

Are the cheap wide angle lenses as good as the official (expensive) canon wide angle lens? or rather, good enough for HD POV footage?

Do you use anything like hand held steadicam kits?

Are there any other tricks to keeping the camera relatively still?

Cheers for any answers. :)

John as a steadcam that straps to his shoulder so the camera sits like a parrot on his shoulder, he is able to tip it down hands free.

!cool!

The monopod is a bloody good idea. Also the tip on not zooming but move the camera. I will definitely remember that and get me a monopod.
