So after months of protests, building and all sorts of shit, we`ve a Tesco opening tomorrow in my shitty little town. Who does the hiring at these places? They can`t hire someone already employed but they can hire 3 smackheads to work the tills and 2 dealers to work the meat counter. Buy a pound of coke and get a pound of pork free?

I'd fucking kill for a Tesco or even a Morrisons that wasn't more than a 30 minute drive from me.

Lots of crappy traders in lots of towns are running scared.Fuck 'em they've been having it their way too long.Tesco has issues but their range and prices will show these 'rest on their laurels' traders the way.If they go bust then fuck them.

My complaint is that they`re hiring all sorts of scumbags that most employers would run a mile from. They won`t give you a job if you`re already employed but they`ll take you if you got the sack from your last job cause you were stealing to feed your habit

Not only that, but the use their size to force down the price of goods until the people supplying them go out of business.
If you supply say bread to Tescos and charge them say 50p a loaf, then next year Tesco say "You were selling it to us for 50p last year, now do it for 45p this year or we will go elsewhere".
Companies have no option but to sell it at the lower price or lose a lot of their business.
All these big companies use their size to scare their suppliers.

Also, dont believe these supermarkets when they say they are that cheap.
Go and look at your local greengrocer and see what THEY are selling fresh produce for.
You go to a big supermaket and see a Pineapple at ?1.99 and you buy it.
Pop to your local greengrocer and they will probably have them for 99p.
Supermarkets really ramp up the prices for fresh goods.
The problem is that as the independant shops disappear we have no idea what the REAL price is for anything any more, only what the supermarkets charge us.
If they all tell us that 9 rolls of toilet paper is ?3.99 then we have to trust that is the price and buy it.
For all we know an independant shop may be able to sell them for ?2.99, but try finding one.
Aldi is a good example of how much you can save if you shop there, and the quality is pretty good.

They probably told the council that this new Tesco would "create" 200 new jobs (or some such number), so they have to emply people on the dole.
The fact that loads of small shops in the area will close down, LOSING 200 jobs, probably was not mentioned.
