Gordon Brown - here come the ? ? ? 's

Post by max_tranmere »

It looks like Brown is going to resign in the next hour (according to Sky News). In the coming weeks and months he will call upon all the business contacts he made whilst in politics to make as many millions of pounds as he possibly can for himself. He joins a long list of ex PM's to do this: Blair, Major, Thatcher, Callaghan, and Heath (although interestingly no one prior to Heath did this). I hope the champagne tastes good and those country mansions are just as luxurious as you hope Gordon....

I note that during your break, Max you still haven't learnt the difference between fact and guesswork.

He has said he will be doing lots of charity work. I'm sure he will, in amongst cashing in as much as he possibly can. All of Blair's front-bench, who are no longer in Government, have done this. So has Blair, and Brown will too.

You yet again show your ignorance.

Gordon Brown has often daid that he has no interest in taking up directorships (he never had any before going into Government) or going on the lucrative ex-PM lecture tour that Thatcher, Major and Blair have milked to such good effect.

Instead, he has often said that he intends going into education and becoming a teacher or a university lecturer.

Still, given you seem to get all your information from Sky News, it's hardly surprising that you post so many ill informed views in these forums.

He will be the only one who didn't, if he doesn't. It's the next step these days for all ex senior politicans.

Hilarious that you'd believe ANYTHING Sky News would tell you. Brown is going to stay on as an MP. He's not a champagne socialist, unlike most of those he sadly had to work with.

Not sure where you get YOUR information from but Brown made it clear to party workers at Labour HQ near Victoria that (as well as resigning from the leadership with immediate effect) he would also be standing down as an MP at the earliest opportunity.

The earliest opportunity means the next election. That could be in six months, it could be five years. He's most certainly NOT quitting immediately.

The earliest opportunity means that as soon as Parliament is in session, the chief whip of the Labour party will move the writ for a by-election in Kirkcaldy & Cowdenbeath. Brown cannot officially stand down as an MP until Parliament is in session and he has taken the oath of loyalty to the monarch.

The earliest opportunity does NOT mean the next election (otherwise he would have said he would not stand AGAIN as an MP).

Maybe the English language is sometimes too subtle and/or precise for people to understand!
