I have to make my book "5x8 trim size" in Word ready for making into a pdf file for printing and if anyone has any advice on this I would be grateful.

How odd. If it's actually going into print then surely your publisher - whoever they may be - would do all this for you?
Here's a guide with reference to 5x8 trim:
Seems best suited for self-publishing though, so it might not be that much use to you.

Thanks a lot I will check it out. American publishers these days get one to do it all oneself and are buying millions of titles from publishing houses who know all the technical side. On the other hand they have broken the monopoly of the old school tie boys who were always sitting on piles of manuscripts. These days if you can write a good book then you can get it published.

Back to my original question - who's publishing yours?

Re: Advice wanted, Word formatting
I am dealing with more than one publisher so I don't know yet as I'm waiting for an offers after submitting a manuscripts in Word and also I have not formatted a 5x8 document trim size yet in order to make a pdf for another. I have downloaded a template but don't know where to start. Writing for me is easy and technical formatting a nightmare!
