I just heard Slow by Rumer on the radio, not for the first time. Lovely song. But I didn't know what she looked like so I had a look at the video on YouTube, here:

Well, she's lovely, really gorgeous, in more of a down-on-the-farm kind of way than a because-you're-worth-it way. I do like the way that 'real'-looking women have been embraced more by the media and music industries over the last couple of years and how the idea of female beauty has been correctly broadened. I think that the Dove campaign and Gok Wan's TV programmes have had a real influence.
And on a second point, this is the best video I've seen in ages. No gimmicks, nothing fancy, just the idea of presenting the recording of the song (which has been a thousand times before) to convey a sense of ease, warmth and affection, people enjoying the act of creativity together on a warm summer afternoon, and all of it tailored perfectly the look and character of the singer and the gentle beauty of the song. She comes from a small town on the southern edge of the New Forest and it's got the feeling of being shot somewhere deep in the countryside. Brilliant.
