As is pointed out in the article, Canon unveiled a 50 megapixel sensor about 3 years back and that has yet to see the light of day in a camera that you or I could purchase, so I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a 120 mega pixel camera to be on the shelf at Calumnet or Warehouse Express any time soon.

I don't know about what future Canons hold, but I'm getting pissed off at Nikon adding HD video to their range of DSLRs. I'm not interested in shooting video, and if I were I'd buy a video camera. I certainly don't want to pay extra for a "feature" I neither want nor need on a DSLR, but it looks evermore likely that the D4, when it appears sometime next year, will include the ability to shoot HD video. Let's hope it drives down the price of the D3S so I can get a couple of those!

Gentlemen,

This seems a solution for a very specific requirement e.g. spying operations, space missions, exploration etc.

Alternatively, maybe there is a demand out there for people who want to be able to count the number of hairs in Katie Price's right nostril.

However many mega pixels cameras will have in the future, purely in terms of quality, digital still has a long way to go before it even gets close to film, let alone surpasses it.
