Hypocrite of the Year Award 2010

I am pleased to announce a sister award to the Scrounger of the Year award. Unlike the Scrounger of the Year award where a conviction for tax evasion or fraud is required, the Hypocrite of the Year award will be aimed at those who hit out at the unemployed whilst themselves trousering millions through dodgy tax avoidance schemes.

On this forum you may have seen a post or two about dole scroungers living "the life of riley" on benefits. The people's friend The Sun has even gone to the lengths of declaring war on benefit scroungers who are costing the country 1.5 billion a year. The Sun even provides a shop a benefit cheat telephone line.

But hold on a minute!!! For years it has been common knowledge that News International, the British arm of Rupert Murdoch's media empire, keeps its tax bill to a minimum. For example, iIn the 11 years since 1988 Newscorp Investments, which the magazine says is the main British holding company, made cumulative profits of GBP 1.377 billion. The total corporation tax it paid was nil.

Blow me, makes 1.5 billion lost to benefit fraud look like small change you wouldnt even bother picking up.

So boys and girls, my suggestion for Hypocrite of the Year Award 2010 goes to.... the one and only Rupert Murdoch!

Just as scandalous is the fact that for all Murdoch's baleful influence on British politics and politicians, he isn't even a British citizen. Talk about power without responsibility.
