Having a laugh or what (part 2) ?

Post by Dave Wells »

Or maybe subject should read trying to go straight :-

Thank you Dave for your interest in wanting to work with ErosMusic.co.uk. Although you are almost over qualified for the position you have applied for we are not sure how an adult entertainment association would affect the organisations image. It is the first of it's kind and we are very intrigued by your application, but from a professional point of view it could be damaging to ErosMusic.co.uk to have that connection.

My reply :- At first when reading your reply, I didn't quite know how to react - amazed, staggered etc. But now after I have calmed down and recovered a bit I can put it into some perspective and answer your points (with interest).

Firstly just how would 'an adult entertainment association' affect your organisations image exactly ? Damaging ? How ? Last time I looked in the mirror I don't think I saw a label round my neck saying 'dirty porn camera guy' !!! So it is very difficult to comprehend what you mean by that assumption !

I'll explain my point like this. You have expressed your 'worry' about my past connections with a legitimate business that is looked upon in the TV and Film world as a bit of a joke or at least that we are all perverts or something similar. Well you are very very wrong if you are also thinking this way. My ability to do the job, be that stills or video is unrivalled and the fact that my experience and abilities have been used to produce award winning product in 'the adult business' is totally irrelevant, I suppose !

Surely the ability to produce great camera work is the most important criteria isn't it ?

Surprise suprise the TWAT didn't reply !

Welcome to the outside world mate, where a pornographer is considered to be a leper. Our business is no different as far as "Polite society" is concerned, as drug dealer, arms dealer, gangster, ex con, MP (lol).

Well I doubt that somehow, Bill. As I've mentioned above, I've been trying for years to get into 'normal tv or film work' (and as you yourself are fully aware I had a family connection). I do apply as a kind of sport now to be honest although it is kinda disheartening to reach 51 years of age and be unemployable I must admit.

" it is kinda disheartening to reach 51 years of age and be unemployable I must admit."

Outside porn, there are millions of others in management/ executive/sales positions who are in the same position, with no hope of employment in the future. We live in an ageist society.

The question is if you've paid off your mortgage and have some savings, then you've done really well.

I feel sorry for the people who have held down a job in a company or organisation for years, been loyal and then been thrown out for no other reason than their age. I know someone who is a teacher of 60, has worked in the same school for 30 years. He is having to write to the school to explain "Why they should keep him on". Reason? Because he has worked his way up to a high salary, if they sling him out they can get a newly qualified teacher to do the same job for half the money. If you are some wanker working in a quango or some jumped up official, you'll get a ?200,000 pay off every time you change jobs, regardless of whether you're a failure or not.

Welcome to New Labours Egalitarian society, where some are more equal than others.

Yes thankfully we have paid off the mortgage but don't have any money saved. I was sacked from my last full time post in pornoland for no reason whatsoever so I know all about your 'paragraph' !

"Welcome to New Labours Egalitarian society, where some are more equal than others."

No doubt, Jimbo you read Dave's other post Having a Laugh (part 1) where he was offered a piss poor daily rate for a photography job.

Wasn't it Cameron and the Tory lot that vehemently opposed the introduction by New Labour of the minimum wage? Didn't every single Tory MP vote agains the introduction of a minimum wage?

Perhaps you could explain the thinking behind that aspect of the "Tories Egalitarian society".
