It's brilliant, if you like reading but hate the bother of holding the tiresome things and turning pages, then why not turn your laptop into an EReader?
I'm sure the monks of olde, if they had Macs would never have bothered writing books with quill pens and so on and Caxton wouldn't have bothered inventing his noisy old printing press!
Simply google, Epubs and then go to an ebook seller, buy an ebook and it comes with some adobe software, you can then display and turn pages of your book using the arrow keys. Best thing is that you can lie back on the sofa and read from a metre away or more and simply stretch out to turn the page.
You can then empty those shelves of all those bothersome books and free them up for other trinckets! !wink!

Sorry, but I want to turn the pages via mind power. Too much effort using hands.
Seeing as Apple are doing a pretty good job of turning adults into children, an unmoving foetus-like state is probably next.

You can do this with any PC, not just Macs.
We spend far too long staring at LCD screens as it is - phones, TVs and PCs all have them.
Give your eyes a rest and keep to the real books...or get an E Ink reader like the Amazon Kindle. It's 3 times lighter than an iPad, 4 times cheaper, you can read in direct sunlight and you only charge it up once a month.

Ok,ok, already....... I hate books 'cos my eyesight is bad and I can't read them properly and the EReaders are the same size as a book.
The Ipad sounds good, but I want to wait for the next generation. However the good thing about using a laptop is that you don't actually have to hold it at all, just plonk it down wherever. Does the IPad have an arrangement for propping it up?

You want your hands free while reading? Unless wanking off to David Copperfield is your thing, or you like doing yoga while reading, I can't see the attraction.

Re: You're all forgetting...
Who in God`s name wants to balance one of these bloody metal and
glass computer gadgets called laptops and fart around with the bloody
thing - even turning it on and setting up reading said book takes so long
I could get through half a chapter of a normal book in that time !!!
Personally - and you are entitled to like playing with toys - but NOTHING
replaces the ease, common sense and even the smell of reading a
book, be it paperback or hardback !!!
Well, the answer seems to be Jim Slip does.....all I can reply is God help
me from such Philistines !!!
I remain curled up on my sofa with a nice, compact, cosy book....take your
21st century toy and stick it up your.............
ps
I am glad to see the lovely Lara Latex likes to have a hard book in her
hands as well as a laptop (and probably other hard things as well !)
