How long for Hodgson?

Post by Arginald Valleywater »

I wonder how long the new owners of Liverpool will suffer Roy Hodgson's managerial style? Averaging less than a goal a match is not going to revive their fortunes any time soon. Nice bloke but out of his depth.

Even if Hodgson is sacked, who would seriously want that job? Liverpool have been a spent force for years and it was more luck than anything else that they had a top 4 finish two seasons ago.

There are only 3 players who could get a starting place in any of last year's top 6... Reina, Gerrard and Torres, and Torres is lacking both form and fitness at the moment. Everything is heaped on Gerrard's shoulders at the moment, and if he's having an off day (and everyone is entitled to an off day) then they have nothing.

Even if the new owners stump up some cash at Christmas for whoever is manager, it's rare to find a decent player available during the January transfer market, let alone one willing to join a struggling side. And it'll take more than one new decent player to turn their fortunes around.

The best Liverpool can hope for is to avoid relegation and to rebuild completely next season.

I see Benitez was making some incomprehensible remarks about milk yesterday, as some form of obtuse way of heaping the blame on the former owners. Sorry, but I thought it was Benitez, not Hicks & Gillet, who squandered almost ?150 million on crap players. Wasn't it also Benitez who sold Alonso? He has to take a fair share of the blame for where Liverpool now find themselves.

Sad thing is a lot of their fans still believe they are one of the top 3 clubs with only Chelsea and the Salford Cockneys as rivals. They dissmiss Arsenal and Man City as nothing clubs. LFC fans must have a reality check and realise they have not won the league for almost 2 decades and do not have the buying power to attract the best players anymore. Sad but true.

It's that kind of arrogance on their fans' part which led me to hope they'd go into administration and have 9 points deducted. All this crap leveled at Chelsea and Man City for "having no history" and attempting to buy titles. As I recall Liverpool used to splash the cash a bit when they were winning titles year after year in the 70s and 80s. If Liverpool fans are so in awe of "history", maybe they need reminding that they ARE history!!!
