32 years in jail for the 'London Fields' duo..

A 16 year old girl is queing for her chicken and chips in a take away in Hackney, east London. Along comes a guy on a bike carrying a sub machine gun and opens fire into the shop in an attempt to take-out a gang rival. As is quite common with these things, he didn't hit who he was trying to hit (it is possible the intended victim wasn't even in the shop) and instead shot and killed a schoolgirl. This guy and his look-out, who are both members of an outfit calling itself The London Fields Gang, then leave the scene but are later caught.

One of them is 20 and the other is 21. They will both be in their 50's when they are eligible for parole as the Judge today said they must serve at least 32 years each. My parents tell me that London was a very safe city years ago, guns were used very rarely and usually just in bank-raids. Now it is a daily thing in half a dozen areas of London. Gun use was an urban American thing years ago. Now it is commonplace in London. I think that is a great shame. This used to be a safe city. Not now. What do people think about all this?

By say the 1950s and 1960s the UK had taken hundreds of years to become a fairly safe and civilised society. It was a great country to live in.

Then we began to let people in from countries that are either "third world" level or war torn (like Somalia that has had no effective government for about 30 years).

These people arrive here, and many of them soon find they are outcasts, unwanted and unemployable so they turn to crime, often drugs.

As they have come from countries where the gun is law they use the same methods here. If a few innocent people get killed or injured on the way then they dont care.

Unfortunately this almost uncontrolled and unmanaged immigration has been the worst thing to happen to this country since the second world war.

We are regretting it now, and will regret it for decades to come.

Let's face it, the USA has had far longer to sort this issue out than we have, and they still have a massive problem between the different ethnic groups, with gang warfare and drug crime a major problem.

I am afraid like oil and water, some ethnic groups dont mix.

So who else has caused black youngsters in London to form gangs and kill each other?

Maybe there never was a golden age but there was certainly an age when 15 year old kids did not use sub machine guns on London streets.

Turan, not sure I agree. We seem to have imported all the urban problems of Kingston, Jamaica into the UK. Black districts of London, Nottingham, Birmingham and may other cities have very high amounts of serious gang membership and gun and knife crime. Just ask the advisors on Operation Trident, the wing of the Met Police that was set up to tackle black-on-black gun crime in London. They will say the same thing - and they are black themselves.
