Libyan torture

Post by David Johnson »

We all know that Gaddafi was a cruel and ruthless dictator.

That made it all the easier for the likes of Cameron to describe the war in terms of good against evil and the importance of protecting Libyan civilians.

However it would appear the Amnesty, the London-based rights group have uncovered evidence of torture and ill-treatment of thousands of people detained in recent months.

The actual report is here

Looks like the goodies aren't quite as good as Cameron and co. portrayed them. A situation where militias and street gangs are wandering around arresting and imprisoning women and children without apparent reason and detainees are tortured as a matter of course.

Meanwhile as for the Libyan civilians, Sirte has been bombed to bits as street by street fighting now takes over. I wonder who protected the Libyan civilians unable to get out of Sirte?
