There were (I believe) five big names: Alban, R. Lemieuvre, D. Aveline, G. Royer and J.P. Armand.
A director could trust in them, they would perform.
The rest were more regular guys that often showed wood problems. I can remember two cases whose performances I didn't like:
-Ghislain V.H. in La Rabatteuse. His duty was to take care of a number of great ladies; yet he always seems more scared than aroused, and even he lets his own ass be dildoed >:-< . Well, at least he does well in the great scene with the mother and daughter.
-Gerard Gregory. In Le retour des veuves, he and his pal J.P. Armand again have to take care of a number of great ladies. Both put enthusiasm, but GG's performance pales beside JPA's. In fact, GG only seems to get real solid wood in a scene where E. Bure blows them both. Was it rubbing his cock with JPA's what really aroused him?
Later, in the 80s, male performers became different, as a comparison of the names shows clearly. Other than the above five, did any of the 70s have any significant career into the 80s?

Re: French performers of the 70s
Dominique St. Claire (the male, also known as Gil Lagard?re, who plays in Teenager in Love), and Cyril Val, just to mention a couple of names... but there are so many others.

Re: French performers of the 70s
2 '70's big names were Jean-Louis Vattier and Charley Schreiner, who apparently though didn't make it into the '80's (some of their '80's releases appear to have been shot before).
Other 2 notable performers were Robert Leray (is he dead)? and Desire Bastareaud (who made it into the '90's).
